![]() The main tasks I would want for mine would be bringing medication / drink, physical manipulation/ agitation, and physical support. I don’t have a service dog, but I think about it a lot. It just didn’t occur to me, but she created her own solution for my problem lol. This is one of those well that worked out scenarios, but it is absolutely not something I even considered. So she is conditioned to the alarm by accident. So if I manage to sleep through the alarm and her whining, the cage rattling and borking of a golden retriever about 12 inches from my head does the trick to get my ass out of bed. Her kennel is right next to the head of the bed on my side. Since I have an alarm every day, she learned that if the alarm was going off and I wasn’t getting up that if she made noise I was likely to get up and it escalated as behaviors tend to do when they become reinforced and then you ignore them. She realized she got out of her kennel after the alarm went off. The med alarm I shaped so she is conditioned to hear the med alarm and badger me until I take my medication (I set the termination of the task at opening my pill thing). Great way to stop sleeping through alarms, or turning them off and passing right back out.įor those two, a command from me isn’t needed. She’ll start with whining and continue until she is loudly borking and rattling the cage to get me up to let her out. I didn’t train her to do this directly (she picked up on my alarm means get up for the day), so I don’t consider it a true task but it is helpful to the point someone might want to train it: if I don’t get up with the alarm in the morning, she becomes increasingly agitated in her kennel. She is also trained to pull in close to me to the point she is walking while touching me if we’re out walking somewhere and I get wobbly until we can get somewhere safe for me to sit. Her laying on me can help calm me down and regulate my emotions better. Sometimes I get stuck in this weakness loop because my attacks can really frustrate and upset me at times. She is trained to push me around (so I’m not stuck in a weird position) and lay on me when I have a cataplexy attack. I have my dog trained to harass me to take my medications when my med alarm goes off (because adhd means in the time I turn off my alarm and walk to the kitchen I can forget what the fuck I was doing and miss my medication dose that keeps me awake).
